Personal Concerns and Next Steps

I have learned a lot about how to teach mathematics in a better and more effective way. I think that this method of teaching is very important for teachers to use in their classrooms. I do have a question, though. I plan on becoming a middle school social studies teacher. I like the method of teaching that I learned in this class; I wonder how I can use this kind of teaching for social studies. I would love to teach in this manner and I'm not sure how to apply it to social studies classrooms.

  1. I think it is interesting learning how to teach with a constructivism or problem solving approach because it is something that I did not experience while in grade school. I remember struggling trying to memorize math concepts instead of learning how or why we do things in math. I think using the new approach is helpful in the classroom. I will admit that it is frustrating trying to problem solve myself and see how it is benefical for students to learn.
