Math has never been an easy subject for me.  I have struggled with it all of my life and coming into this class I started to feel more defeated.  Hopefully throughout this semester I will be able to understand the concept of how to teach math a new way. So far I have struggled a little but it is becoming easier to understand.

  1. I struggled with Math up until high school. In high school I had two very good teachers that gave me a new confidence in math. I am intruiged by this new way of teaching math. The few activities that we have done have given me new understanding of those topics including surface area and mean. I am excited to dive deeper into how to teach lower level math to the younger grades; because I am focused more towards those levels. I was talking with a former professor and a kindergarten teacher here in town and they were saying that the content is being pushed down with the new standards. She said that her Kindergarten class has to start learning the new standards to be ready to test in 3rd grade in 2014. One of many of the changes with these standards is changing from counting to 20 into counting to 100. What about the kids that are barely counting...how do we reach them and what if we don't.
